Description
Ziegler rugs are simplistic in their colouring and floral pattern, predominately one colour contrasted with an ivory or cream. The floral motifs are highlighted with tiny hints of subtle complimentary colours.
The Afghan Ziegler takes it’s name directly from a Swiss Company, Ziegler & Co., founded by Mr Ziegler. In 1880, Ziegler employed skilled Persian weavers to make rugs for the then European market.
Todays Royal Ziegler is a revival pattern based on Old Persian and Indian Agra patterns. Sometimes known as ‘Chobi’ which translates from Dari and Farsi (Afghan and Persian languages) to mean ‘wood’, referring to their natural colours.
